Installation guide for the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router (wireless installation)

To start, make sure you've uninstalled and disconnected your ISP-supplied USB modem completely.



First, connect the supplied power adaptor to the POWER port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, and plug it into a power outlet (1).

Next, connect your ADSL phone cable to your ADSL filter, and also to the PHONE LINE port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router(2). For the 2700HG, the DSL light will turn solid green (this can take up to 10 minutes, so be patient). For the 1701HG, the Broadband Link light will be Orange - only when configuration is complete does the Broadband Link light turn green.

Next, set your WiFi-enabled computer (the picture at (3) shows a laptop with a wireless card, but it you can use a laptop with WiFi built-in, or a desktop with a WiFi card) to get an IP address from the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router via DHCP - see the table below for instuctions for your system:

1. Click Windows' 'Start' menu, then 'Settings', then click 'Control Panel'.
2. Double-click the 'Network' icon.
3. Under the 'Configuration' tab, select 'TCP/IP' for the wireless network adapter you want to use to connect to your 2Wire router/modem.
4. Click 'Properties'.
5. Select 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.
6. Click 'OK' twice.
7. Restart your computer.

1. Click Windows' 'Start' menu, then 'Settings/Control Panel', then click 'Network Connections'.
2. Right-click Wireless Network Connection icon.
3. Click 'Properties'.
4. Select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)'.
5. Click 'Properties'.
6. Select 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically'.
7. Click 'OK' twice.
8. Restart your computer.

1. OSX: From the dock or Apple menu, open 'System Preferences', and click on 'Network'.
1. OS9: From the Apple menu, open 'Control Panels>TCP/IP'.
2. In 'Show:/Connect via': Select 'Ethernet Slot 0 / Ethernet Adapter for USB connection' or 'Built-in Ethernet for Ethernet Connection'.
3. In 'Configure': select the option 'Using DHCP'.
4. Click 'Save/Apply Now'and close the window.
5. Restart your computer.


Now, to connect to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router wirelessly to configure it.

Click Windows' 'Start' menu, then 'Settings/Control Panel', then click 'Network Connections'. Right-click Wireless Network Connection icon, and click View Available Wireless Networks.



The 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router will be visible - its SSID (wireless network name) is 2Wire001 or similar - see pic.

Hit Connect - a network key will be requested. This is written on the base of the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, on a sticker below the barcode. Click here if you're having trouble finding the network key.

When you've successfully connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, you need to log into its configuration page to complete the installation and connect to the Internet.

If you're using Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections, and make sure "Never dial a connection" is selected.

Open a web browser, and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar, and hit enter:



You're now connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router - follow the wizard to connect to your ADSL service.

When prompted for a 20-digit keycode from the router's configuration screen, please use this keycode for PPPoA connection, suitable for almost all UK ADSL service providers (Tiscali, TalkTalk, BT, Orange etc.): 52EU-2374-WHE2-22AZ-B2BS

To complete the installation, you'll need the username and password your ISP supplied to you when signed up for their service.

Also had to adjust MTU down to 1000 to connect to ebay.

HAD TO ADJUST THE MTU TO 1400 AS WOULD NOT UPDATE WINDOWS
