Connecting a computer wirelessly to the Netopia 3347W ADSL modem/WiFi router

This guide assumes that you have a wirelessly-enabled computer to connect to the Netopia 3347W ADSL modem/WiFi router.

This guide also assumes that your Netopia 3347W ADSL modem/WiFi router is already configured and connected with an Ethernet cable, as per our installation guide.

1. Find the SSID of the router/modem, and the WEP encryption key.

With a computer connected to the Netopia 3347W ADSL modem/WiFi router, log into the router's configuration page at 192.168.1.254. From the menu on the left-hand side, choose "Expert Mode", then click "Yes, enter expert mode":



Next, from the left-hand menu, click "Configure", then "Wireless":



Now, click "Advanced Configuration Options" to see all the wireless options. "Wireless ID (SSID)" shows the router's SSID, make a note of this. "Encryption Key #1:" shows the default WEP key, make a note of this.



You can connect any wirelessly-enabled computer or console to the router now you have these 2 pieces of information.

1. Connecting a wirelessly enabled computer

Windows XP instructions:

First click Windows' 'Start' menu, then 'Settings/Control Panel', then click 'Network Connections'. Right-click Wireless Network Connection icon, and click View Available Wireless Networks.

Now, you'll see the SSID of the router, as found in step 1. Select this network, then hit "Connect".

When prompted for the key, enter the Encryption Key #1 found in step 1.

You're now connected to the router/modem.


Vista instructions:

Click Windows icon (bottom left on taskbar), then 'Settings', then click 'Control Panel'.

Under the Subheading 'Network and sharing center', click 'View network status and tasks'.

On the left on side, click 'Manage wireless networks'.

Another window will pop up - click 'Add'

Another window will pop up - click 'Add a network that is in range of this computer'.

Select the SSID found in step 1 and click 'Connect'.

A network key will be requested - type the Encryption Key #1 found in step 1 into the box and click 'Connect'.

You're now connected to the router/modem.
