Installation guide for the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router with Vista (wireless installation)

To start, make sure you've uninstalled and disconnected your ISP-supplied USB modem completely.



First, connect the supplied power adaptor to the POWER port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, and plug it into a power outlet (1).

Next, connect your ADSL phone cable to your ADSL filter, and also to the PHONE LINE port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router(2). The DSL light will turn solid green (this can take up to 10 minutes, so be patient).

Next, set your WiFi-enabled computer (the picture at (3) shows a laptop with a wireless card, but it you can use a laptop with WiFi built-in, or a desktop with a WiFi card) to get an IP address from the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router via DHCP, see below:

1. Click Windows icon (bottom left on taskbar), then 'Control Panel', then click 'Network and Internet'.

2. Under the subheading 'Network and sharing center', click 'View network status and tasks'.

3. On the left on side, click 'Manage wireless networks'.

4. Click 'Adapter properties'.

5. Select 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically'.

6. Click 'OK' twice.

7. Restart your computer


Now, to connect to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router:

1. Click Windows icon (bottom left on taskbar), then 'Settings', then click 'Control Panel'.

2. Under the Subheading 'Network and sharing center', click 'View network status and tasks'.

3. On the left on side, click 'Manage wireless networks'.

4. Another window will pop up - click 'Add'

5. Another window will pop up - click 'Add a network that is in range of this computer':



6. Select the SSID 2WIRExxx and click 'Connect':



7. A network key will be requested - type this key into the box and click 'Connect'. This key is written on the base of the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, on a sticker, below the barcode. It's a 10-digit number between [] brackets. Click here if you're having trouble finding the network key:



8. The window will then say "Successfully connected to 2WIRExxx"

9. Close that window. You're now connected!

10. The Network and Sharing Centre shows the Wireless Network Connection. You can manage this connection from this centre (view status, signal strength, disconnect etc.):




When you've successfully connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, you need to log into its configuration page to complete the installation and connect to the Internet.

Open a web browser, and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar, and hit enter:



You're now connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router - follow the wizard to connect to your ADSL service.

When prompted for a 20-digit keycode from the router's configuration screen, please use this keycode for PPPoA connection, suitable for almost all UK ADSL service providers (Tiscali, TalkTalk, BT, Orange etc.): 52EU-2374-WHE2-22AZ-B2BS

To complete the installation, you'll need the username and password your ISP supplied to you when signed up for their service.
